Boundary Street in Bloom

Every day, twice a day, I walk past these planters on my street, which live on the sidewalk beside a house. They were always very green, but lean on blooms. Finally, the other day I walked past to this wonderful sight:

I love gardenias! I have to admit that they taunted me for the next few days - i kept imaging these pretty blooms sitting on my bedside table, but I resisted my floral kleptomanic tenancies, and left them for everyone to enjoy. A couple of days later they were gone. I like to think that the owners of the house they sit in front of took them, but I'm not always convinced.

Friends in Bloom

Last week one of my friends asked me to create a bunch of blooms for one of my other friends. So nice. He used the words 'big, experimental and creative' in his brief. So, no pressure.

Doing a big bunch was really nerve racking. My small hands and lack of arm definition made it very difficult to hold the bunch, and I actually felt sore for a few days! But  in the end, it was well worth the strain and the early weekend wake-up calls.

Taste of Sydney in Bloom

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending Taste of Sydney in beautiful Centennial Park. It was a super ace day. There were tequila cocktails, stuffed figs, ice-cream sandwiches and lots of other sensory pleasures.

Somehow, in between stuffing my face, I managed to snap some pics of the blooms that surrounded us.

If you get the chance next year, GO! And save me a Sake Kingfish Ceviche.

March Markets in Bloom

The Saturday flower markets only have about a third of the stalls that trade through the week, but that's still plenty for the average home bloomer.

Stock can be a bit old, but it is super cheap. They had beautiful magnolia bunches for $8, and I got 25 of those awesome roses below for $15. I also discovered ginger flowers (the pinecone like pink flowers below) which are $6 for a huge (over a metre long) stem.

Where else would you rather be at 7am on a Saturday morning?

FOMO in Bloom

Why Sydney, why?

Why would you POP in, and create an incredible green lane, and then only open it for TWO days?

Talk about FOMO, in Sydney if you blink you will miss it all!

Dahlias in Bloom

I found this information on the meaning of Dahlias:

Dahlia’s are spicy flowers, and their meanings range from a sign of warning, to change, to travel, to even a portent of betrayal. The varied symbolic meanings of the dahlia make this flower a wild card. Give to that unique, eclectic person whom you wish to compliment his/her wild side. Combine them with slender flowers like irises or tulips for a striking visual display as well as a combined symbolic message that says “temper your adventures with a kind heart".

I think they're darling.
