Bondi Rooftop Party in Bloom
On Saturday I did a few blooms for my friend Emma D's birthday party. It's pretty easy to do something lovely on a rooftop overlooking the north end of Bondi beach. I had a few ideas, but in the end I just had to go with something beachy - frangipanis, hibiscus and bougainvillea. This was really easy and cheap and I think it was perfect for a summery evening.
This is Suz, she brought the views!

Spring Market in Bloom
Sorry, this is a bit slack, but it's been quite busy the past couple of days. These are more old pics I'm afraid, but the are so lovely, of the Sydney Flower Markets in October. The Sydney Flower Markets are one of the few in the world where the general public can go, so if you have a free morning, sometime before 6 am, I highly recommend it. You will generally pay about a third for your blooms than you do at a florist. I am heading back soon, so it will be really interesting to see how much the stock has changed.

Hermes in Bloom
I haven't thought about it in a really long time, but there was a lot of wattle around when I was growing up. Once I even dressed up as a Wattle Baby for book week and my mum made me a skirt out of real wattle. It was uber cute. All of a sudden I want to see more of it, and this Hermes Paris Mon Ami video is the reason. Watch it, you will not be sorry.
Australia Day is coming up....

Danielle in Bloom
I found these old pics of some blooms and wrapping I put together for one of my most gorgeous friends, Danielle, a few months ago. It was my first birthday after starting flower school and I was ever so proud of my skills.
I just stuck the petals onto the present with double sided tape.
I hope I've come a long way from then - I am looking forward to creating some awesome birthday bouquets in 2012. It's a good time to be my friend!

Analogous in Bloom
I took a workmate through a flower school assignment the other day on colour theory, and it reminded me how much I love creating an analogous design (although hate saying it - try it, it sounds like a made up word!).
Analogous uses three colours that are next to each other on the colour wheel. So it's very harmonious. I have used red, pink and purple flowers in this little design for my dining space.
I am super in love with carnations at the mo. When you arrange them really tightly like this they create the most amazing mini posy, and the petals look like paper. Carnations - for style, not just for servos!
Don't you think this looks kind of Mexican? I think it's the colours. Also, Dahlias are crazy beautiful right now, so go out and buy some!

Budget in Bloom
So it's January, and of course I have no money to spend on flowers, and no flower school to bloom me up every Saturday! I went in search of some cost effective blooms, and I found heaps at Harris Farm, Potts Point.
The carnations were 2 for $5 (old stock but looks to be in great condition). The pineapple flowers (which I have never even heard of before) were about $3 for 6 stems (also old and showing their age a bit but I had to get them for the novelty). The Dahlias were $8.99 and it was a really big bunch, and then I also bought some baby's breath at the markets for $6 (it's coming back, mark my words!) So $23 for an apartments load of blooms.
How cool are these pineapple flowers?
They like hanging with my shell lamp, very tropical.

Brooke in Bloom
My very talented lil sis took these awesome shots of me working on the Christmas decorations. It was her very first time using a camera with film! Oh gosh, can you even imagine? It's a whole nother world.

Blue in Bloom
Blue Hydrangeas remind me of my Grandma. She always grew a few plants in her tiny backyard, and I remember my mum would often buy her a lovely new plant for her birthday or Mother's day (which was a big thing for my mum who otherwise only buys white flowers). It's really nice to have such a beautiful reminder of her.

2011 in Bloom
I have been thinking about where my floral inspiration came from in the past year, and this picture just kept flicking up in my mind's eye.
Out of all the incredible pics of Kate Moss's ridiculously fabulous wedding, I just loved this one best. I can just imagine the little florists packing their beautiful creations into little boxes and carefully writing little name tags to identify them and thinking that they had almost finished such a huge task and now their work was going to be a little part of history. And it made me want to be a florist just a little bit more!
BTW, the florists for the wedding were Scarlet & Violet and you can see their goods here.
